    Hi there

    Just built a new house...

Our Paint is reacting with the plaster and we are getting a raised mapping effect.

A painter I know and a paint shop we went to said it is too much Plaz in the plaster. Was wondering if you had ever heard of it. Builder playing ignorent.

Its like oil on the plaster and the emulsion only soaks in in places. Its a right disaster. Kitchen wall looks bad and we cant do the rest of the house untill we know what it is.

Its only on internal block walls like wall between kitchen and hall and kitchen and Sunroom.
Its like there is oil in the plaster.

Tried 4 coats on one wall but still happening

    Any help would be great
    Noel

Yeah its a problem with your plaster I'm afraid. It can also occur when the plaster's too 'polished', meaning the paint wont grip as well in certain areas. Its pretty hard to sort, although if you sand the walls down with a very fine grade sandpaper, this should help. But your builder should be on to the plasterer about it. Using matt paint also makes it less visible.

Did you put undercoat (specal for plasterboards) before you used paint?

By raised mapping effect, do you mean like air bubbles between paint and wall?

Mapping is most common on jack walls etc where there is sand cement under it. It's not as much of a problem as you think. Apply a sealer [owatrol or zinsser] over the wall , next day when it's dry apply a coat of emulsion. Flush fill the walls and apply the second coat of emulsion. I know it's a pain but it is curable
