Chorus deferred recording problem

Did anyone here ever use the deferred recording feature on chorus boxes.
I don't have a dvr box so I use a video recorder to record programs on the chorus box.
I use deferred recording to program the box to stay at a certain channel for a certain amount of time while I'm recording with my vcr.
The problem use deferred recording and turn off the box it resets the aspect ratio of the chorus box to 4:3 pan scan and everything is all zoomed in and stretched on a widescreen tv.
I tried leaving the box turned on today while using the deferred recording feature just as a test and it didn't mess with the aspect ratio.
Has anyone else with a chorus box had this problem?
Do I have a faulty chorus box?

I've called chorus and they said they'd send out someone to have a look at it but they also said they'd charge 50 euros if they found that there was nothing wrong with the box which is something I don't like the sound of as I don't want them to con me out of 50 euros for nothing.
