If your being temporarily laid off then you'll be down as unemployed anyway as the employer would have to make prsi contributions to keep you on the books.

When the company i worked for changed a department into a seperate business i got my P45 even though i carried on working as normal.

As far as I am aware if your employer cannot offer you work for 13 consecutive weeks you are entitled to your redundancy if you have been working for them for two years. You will need to get a letter from them to say they are laying you off temporarily. The best advice i would give is call citizens information or the the employments rights people they know all about this stuff. I was laid of temporarily for 6 weeks and they were a great help....
