Medical Card - Drug Sourcing Question

Hope i'm in the right forum,

There is a prescribed drug that I use on an occasional but regular basis for a non serious condition, but its no longer available in this country by the manufacturers for ratizationalisations reasons I guess, but is available in other countries, hopefully the uk.

Its just that no other replacement drug does the bus for me except this one.

My question is if I ask my pharmacy to source the drug outside of Ireland can they do this for me, bearing in mind that its as a medical card holder that I'm requesting it. :)

I'd say you'll have trouble with that.

When I went in for thrush (reaction to antibiotics I was taking) the doctor wanted to prescribe me pastilles, but they weren't covered under the medical card so I got liquid with a dropper instead (which, to be fair, worked just fine)

So even of the drugs that are available in Ireland, medical card holders only have access to some of them through the medical card.

This would not be covered on your medical card as it is an unlicenced medication..A pharmacy can source it for you but you would have to pay for it...HTH
