TV / DVD recorder set-up

    I'm normally fairly useful at setting up these things but my parents' new set-up left me stumped and wanting 2 hours of my life back last night.

    32 inch Samsung and a Walker DVD recorder set up as follows:

    Cable from NTL box (not digital) into back of DVD recorder and cable running from DVD recorder to back of TV

    Result: TV working perfectly, no issue.

    Scart lead running from DVD recorder into scart socket on TV

    Result: All sound, no picture

    Tried an alternative, HDMI cable running from DVD recorder into HDMI socket on TV

    Result: All picture, no sound.

    Well and truly confused, can any techies out there tell me what I'm doing wrong??
