Running Sky signal to other rooms

I know need to run a co-ax aerial feed from the Sky box RF output to your second TV, does this effect the quality of the reception in the second location, especially if it goes to a distribution point (i.e. running it to more than one tv)?
Does the quality of the cable make a difference?

Also, for HD, I've read this can't be done. Is there a second HDMI slot at the back of the HD box to run to a second room, or can you split it?

the quality is less running a coax to second tv and you only get sound in mono.

a hdmi splitter can be used (1hdmi out on sky box) but length of run to second tv may be a problem.

i would get the best cable to reduce interference and signal loss,

I think ct100 (tony or someone else may verify)

Depending on the lenght of cabling required ct100 would be recommended but if its only a short run then rg6 cabling would be fine. If you wish to distribute it to other rooms then you will require a digital distribution amp...an extremely good one in my opinion is one made by global called the F140....it will allow upto 4 rooms and doesnt need any plug socket as the sky box will power it.

If you want to send another HDMI signal then you will need a hdmi splitting box or HDMI- CAT5 and video baluns an expensive but worthwhile option if possible in your current setup.

Thanks. There'll be cat 5s as it's a new build - what's this baluns of which you speak?? :o

Heres a few items that mite be worth a look at...also the advantage of cat5 over coax is that it will carry stereo sound whereas coax only carries analog...Might be worth running 2-3 cat 5 cables to the points if its a new build....future proof as much as you can afford to...http://www.cyberselect.co.uk/category/56

    Thanks steve.

Double cats running to a few rooms at the moment, trying to future-proof but a little clue-less.
Will these carry hd and sd? Do hd and sd boxes have the output for cat5?

I was putting cats in all rooms that have tv anyway, does this take away the need for co-ax? How do I distribute properly?

Sorry for all the questions that you can't answer w/out details.......

Basically, I'm getting Sky HD in the sitting room, one other sd sky+ box, and an FTA box.
Would like sd and fta to be available to 6 rooms, I'm ok with HD going to sitting room and 2nd sitting room/games room only.
So far my thinking is HD stand-alone in S/Room with a hdmi link to next-door games room (wifey won't let me call it a playroom ;)), everything else goes to central hub and distributed....

Am I on the right lines or totally off the wall?

Ya sounds good to me, Ive setup quite a lot of similar setups to yourself.

Its extremely difficult to tell ppl what to run as no1 knows whats around the next corner. But personally I would run cat 5, ct100 and a telephone point to as many places as possible.

Wherever you decide to make ur hub..eg under a stairs etc...make sure you also take into consideration how to get the feed there...i.e. from the attic so run enought cables to the hub from there.

You should put a terrestrial aerial on the roof attic, a dish with perhaps a quatro lnb...and a multiplexor...this would enable you to use one dish and go up as far as 16 boxes with use for just the one room. That way you could put a box in any room you choice using either old sky boxes or fta boxes etc....This is much better than actually putting a box in a hub in my opinion unless you are perhaps considering using a box with a surround sound system etc..

I would suggest calling in a local agent most would be happy to help you figure out the best way of pre-wiring and perhaps installing the equipment afterwards...

oh yea cat 5e everywhere (just in case)

these are the same sort of thing but i am not sure if they are 1.3 compliant

Thanks for all the info lads. I'm assuming the cat5s will bring with them superior quality over rf?

steve - have an installer lined up, he's comes as part of the electrical contract but he happens to be a distant cousin. haven't spoken to him in detail yet though.

dr nick audio engineer here from big dublin company here is what i would run to each tv point in each room this is the norm ok 2 by cat6 cables 2by coax sat100 cables this will send normal ntl feed to all rooms and the cat 6 will send sky hd and blue ray from a central point. now in each room you might have a dvd player and an audio amp so for the sitting room from the floor to behind the plasma screen or lcd your choice. i would run a good hdmi cable a coax and 2scart leads and if your getting someone to wire the house for you make sure he has a full set of cableing plans for future referance as its handy to know where all the av cables in case you need to move tv around the room this is the most important thing to remember make sure all cables are in the middle of the plasma screen on the wall power/ hdmi/ scart /coax/rgb if you want to run a pc true it as well i hope this will help you as i have been to so many houses and the cableing for a multi room system is no good and has to be re done as the client never tought of asking an av installer to spec the job also there are lots of av installers out there that cant back there work up cowboys is putting it lightly if you need any more advise please feel free to contact me
