HMV to MacDonagh?

I heard this morning from somebody who spoke to someboday who probably spoke to somebody else etc........ (I don't know why I'm posting this, ye probably already know) HMV are to open in MacDonagh before Christmas (I would assume in the Zavvi place). This would obviously give MacDonagh a much needed boost. I would like to quote it as gospel but you know how these stories do the rounds. Has anyone heard this or anything else about other stores?

I didn't hear this but it does seem a very logical move. There would be little fitting out to be done on the old Zavvi store I would imagine.

Hey, cheers seems to confirm they are opening. Management must have came up with a good deal to entice them in.
I thought Athlone had a much bigger new centre with M&S and many other flagships?

I've been in your white elephant in Athlone - I'd much rather have it in Kilkenny than McDonagh Junction. You've got Marks & Spencers, Easons, a Clarks shoe shop, a proper place for having a bite to eat along with the usual Bagel Factory/Gloria Jeans shtick and a better collection of clothes shops (Zara, H&M along with ones that are already in Kilkenny Next, Monsoon). It would be nice if HMV went into the Zavvi stores around the country that went bust. Heartbeat City just doesn't do it for me.

Is it the old Zavvi unit in MacDonagh they are taking as well? Either way, it will be a huge boast the shopping centre and a big reason to go there more often.

Wonder will they take the same location as Zavvi? There seemed to be work going on in the unit that was earmarked for esprit(?) beside the entrance, across the corridor from the bag shop the last time I was there.

Must be the unit where Espirit was supposed to go in to. Looks to be lots of work fitting out there. Also, "Reserved" is splashed across a few others so hopefully it might be something useful.

Dammit! Why didn't hear about this before now!!!?? Now there's only part-time temporary left. Grr... I've worked in HMV Grafton St and HMV Galway so I would've been fairly confident. Although, a couple of days before I was due to finish up in the Galway store I went on a serious bender in Kilkenny and missed the bus back to Galway. When I rang to explain I was so drunk I could barely speak. I just applied anyway, now I just have to hope my old Galway manager doesn't hold a grudge

The Sligo one is opening the first week of November so i would think the Kilkenny branch will be the same!

HMV are interviewing sometime this week. I'd say they will hire staff next week at some stage, training the following week, and fitting out the store then. I would hazzard a guess at an opening last week of this month or first week of next month.

Although I did work in a petrol station when we had 18% unemployment back in the late eighties.
