Problem in recording from Sky+ to DVD recorder

I have sky+ and a Phillips DVD recorder connected by Scart. I am keen rugby watcher / supporter so in the last year I recorded on sky+ a number of different Ireand and Leinster games. The Ireland Games all recorded from RTE and the Leinster games from Sky Sports.
So the really strange thing is that I have been able to record some Ireland and Leinster matches from Sky+ to DVD but not others. I have recorded to DVD all the Ireland games except the last one, the Grand Slam decider against Wales. For the Leinster games, it is the 2 earliest games that I have not been able to record, I could record 3 subsequent Leinster games.

All that comes up on the DVD recorded is "Copy Protected" on the screen or "No Copy" on the machine. Is this because the TV companies change the broadcast settings?

Any suggestions as there is one Leinster game where my son was the team Mascot that I wanted to make sure I put on DVD?

I've just got a Philips DVD recorder and have found the same problem - just for a channel 4 series that herself wanted to record for school (she's a teacher). NO RECORD displays when we try to record it, it will record everything else we have on the sky+, even going through the menus, but as soon as that programme is selected it stops!

Obviously its deliberately blocked, but why this particular programme - I'd understand if it were a Hollywood blockbuster.

This has recently been introduced by SKY apparently. There is a long debate about it over on another well known forum where others have discussed the same problem with the Macrovision being introduced to Sports, Movies (Including PPV) as well as newer soaps and series in general.

It's a newly introduced UK legislation on Copyright infringment I'm made believe...

Yes... If you have a very old VHS recorder you can copy it from the SKY+ box as these would not have Macrovision built into them... This is by no means illegal ;)

    Good luck :)

You are trying to record via scart, have you tried using an RF cable and tuning it into the dvd recorder????

The funny thing aboout this is that of the 5 games I've recoeded from Sky it the 2 from Oct 2008 that I can't record. The ones from April / May 2009 I can record without difficulty

An rf lead is basically a video lead....that's male to female.... you can connect the box from either the rf1 or rf2 connection to the dvd recorder. You will then need to tune the dvd recorder in order to see the channel...may not solve your problem but its worth a try.

Hmmm... I guess Sky operates in mysterious ways :(

God, its taken me a long time (was travelling) but I've finally tried using the RF leas as per Steveon suggestion. However I still get the same message/ problem.

Not sure what next steps should be?

The RF lead carries the Macrovision protection, same as the SCART.

The problem may be a "bug" caused by the combination of your SKY box model and the version of firmware, coupled with the fact that you are probably using one of the new white cards from SKY , perhaps?

See this thread, where ferret finally sorted out his copy protection issue:
