    Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations for a pannier rack and pannier bags for commuting. I have a Specialized Sirrus so is there only some types of racks that will fit?

    Thanks
    SEORG.

I use Ortlieb back-roller panniers on my rear rack (which came with the bike- Bor Yueh brand or something)- well made, waterproof and good capacity. The only issue is access- thay can only be opened at the top by unrolling them, and sometimes I wish they had a little zip/velcro pocket for keys. The panniers weren't cheap - c.€100 - but they should last a long time- a colleague has had his for 15+ years. And you can buy the spare parts individually rather than having to replace the full pannier if a part breaks, or if you need to fit them to different size racks.

I just use one of the in-sy bags and racks for my commute. Used it too on a trip around Ireland during the summer. I could put panniers on the back but to be honest I'd be afraid of filling them up with crap I wouldn't need (for both the commute and anything else).

They're pretty good at keeping the rain out but I just put my clothes and stuff in a plastic bag anyways to be doubly careful.

I have used an in-sy bag myself for light touring but for carrying more stuff you are better off with a rack and panniers. I have a rack on three of my bikes and certainly on my commuter.

I use a TorTec Ultralite rack which is light (400g) but very strong for carrying even very heavy loads. My panniers are old Karrimor ones I got years ago second hand. Ortleib get good reviews.

    Both options in use:

I also have the Ortleib, which are fine on a wet day as they are fully waterproof. Like Doctor Bob I wish they had a quick access pocket though. Also I find as they don't let air in, and there only a top opening its hard to air them.

I have this Topeak Beam Rack MTX - V with this Dual Side Frame with Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DXP and this Topeak MTX Trunk Rain Cover for the really rainy days and i can say i am quite impressed. I thought originally that it would be some crap moving left and right all the time, that it would rattle and everything. But it's perfect. The theoretical weight limit is 7kgs, but last nights shopping from Dunnes was the limit of the bag, 22kgs, and yes my carbon seat post didn't break (which honestly is pretty impressive, i was waiting turn by turn to collapse and take me down with it :p) I wouldn't overload it that much though too often..

And two pics (sorry for the quality)

    Here it is fully opened:

and here when it's all packed:

I have a Specialized Sirrus and recently bought a Blackburn rack and Brand-X Pannier Bags. I basically bought the cheapest best sellers on CRC.

The rack was a little annoying to fit because the seat stays bulge out a little and the bolts provided weren't long enough. I emailed Blackburn and they directed me to Ultimate Pursuits who don't seem to stock the product.
