    Hi all,

I found out im allergic to dairy and was wonder if there are any good shops to buy dairy free cheese- in particular low fat cream cheese.

I know about the lactose free milk and yougart so im all good with that, but know i will really miss my cheese.

    Thanks

This depends on how allergic you are. If you are lactose intolerant, you may well be able to eat some of the hard cheese which are naturally almost lactose free. Cheese with a carb count of less than 0.1% or trace should be ok, but this is something you'll have to try yourself.

Butter should also be fine, if lactose is the problem.

Generally, cream cheese is not lactose free, nor is cream. Some health food shops have a sort of tofu substitute, but you'd need to be pretty desparate to actually eat it.

That brand - Lactofree? - who do the milk and yoghurt also do a lactose free cream cheese and it's very nice indeed. It is available in Tesco but not all the time.

You should be able to eat goat and sheep cheeses, both of which come in lots of varieties and are really delicious, and a nice log of creamy goats cheese definitely tops any cow's milk cream cheese imo!

But in terms of a good cheddar or a nice brie or mozzarella...I'm afraid you've probably said goodbye to those days. Vegan cheeses are generally tofu based and taste like crap!

Are you allergic to dairy or just lactose intolerant? If it's an allergy then the casein protein is what causes the immune reactionand lactose free anything won't help at all.

Toffuti do a nice cream cheese alternative.
The other vegan chesse alternatives are awful though.
