Change of name for Silence-Lotto

There really are some random sponsors in pro-cycling... Anti-snoring medication, home heating systems, metal tubing for livestock pens, laminate flooring, dairy products.

Silence-Lotto will be called Omega-Pharma Lotto from 2010

Silence-Lotto today announced at an international press conference that the team will be riding under the name Omega-Pharma Lotto from the 2010 season onwards, however the structure of the team and the cooperation between the partners will remain unchanged. Omega-Pharma is the producer of the anti-snoring medication “Silence”. In addition, at the press conference Cadel Evan’s new World Champion’s jersey was exclusively presented to the world’s media. Cadel, who was still visibly moved by his most recent triumph, thanked his sponsors and especially Canyon for the fantastic support and the outstanding equipment.

On 8 October Cadel will be competing in his first race as newly crowned World Champion – the Coppa Sabatini in Italy. During the event he will be riding a bike especially designed for him in the colours of the World Champion’s jersey.

Chips Lovell

Omega have been their main sponsor for a number of years. Davitamon, Predictor and Silence were all Omega brand names.

While they've been spreading their publicity around various products, I'm wondering if it's not a bit counterproductive since it takes a while for a name change to sink in. I just end up calling them Lotto.
