    Hi There,

I am trying to find a good golf course to improve my game... I found one golf teacher in my area and before I go there to buy my lessons, I would like to have some opinions...

Stepaside; Kevin Fox seems to be the teacher € 35 for 1/2 hour - 6 lessons for € 180 - the first contact was good -

Did somebody had Kevin Fox as a teacher? If yes, what did you think?
    My handicap is + 8 / 10 on a par 3 golf ....not a pro yet!!

    Thanks for your help!

is that not Kevin Foy,whatever his name is i beleive from a very good source that he is very highly recomended,1 piece of advice don't just get a couple of lessons, get about 10,tell him one of the lads down in McGuirks in Leopardstown recomended him and he'll give a bit of a discount, don't 4get you've to buy your balls for each lesson also so add that on

    Ya i'll vouch for Kev
Good teacher - will take a good look at what ur doing and make small changes that work

Personally i think 6 lessons is excessive.
4 at the most over a 6 week period is the way forward.

it depends on what your standard of swing is,i don't think 4 is enough, buy 10,get a discount and use 1 every week and a half or so with the first 6 and then go back once a month for a checkup, that's what i did and it's changed my game,it took me about 4 months to see results that's why you need to use the same coach over a longer period of time

I think Ill try one lesson to see how I feel and buy 6 or 10 additional depending on how I feel...
Too be honnest - I really do not have a clue of how my swing is! I tried to learn from a dvd ( yeah I know - not necessary the best! but I got some tips!) ...

re the balls, I should be alright - I have something like 100 balls!

sorry i don't get you regarding the balls,I was just giving you a heads up re the balls in spepaside driving range where he teaches out of ,you'll be paying for them on top of your €35

ya but sure if you bring your own balls you'll cut out a cost

hhmm,it's a driving range,do you suggest you hit your balls and then walk out into the driving range and pick your's up,you need to use the balls provided obviously

yeah that makes sense! I d better keep these for games than for lessons in a driving range!

    Any additional tips?

    Thanks ;)

If your just practicing chips with a SW its usually the done thing to wander out into the range and retrieve your balls.
I've seen most people adopt this approach, just let the lads know to the left/right of you in advance of going out there.

    Seriously?

generally i'd chip around 20 balls within 40 metres of my bay.
wander out quickly and retrieve those close to you
driving ranges are expensive enough after all

it is a known fact that you are not permitted over the line at the edge of the bay you goon, lets say you walk out there after telling the 2 guys to your left of your cuning plan, never mind the other slicers further down the line and you get a smack of a ball, you reckon tou'd be insured ,GET A GRIP!

You reckon you cant be hit when you are 40m out of the bay?
    Madness.
What about the "Under no circumstances are players allowed to cross the <yellow> line" signs everywhere?

where a driving range does not provide access to a proper short-game area i think it is only fair that one can use the driving range for similar purposes - just my opinion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭heavyballs

yeah good man and you're on your own with that opinion,if u want to chip it 40m find a normal field,

Does the "driving" bit confuse you or maybe you are into dangerous sports.

There are some llamas that need rounding up on the M50.

F22 - is that supposed to suggest that one can/should only use a driver at a 'driving range'?

    c'mon man

I think its fiar to say that in the interest of your safety and everyone elses and also save the embarrassment of a darwin award you should not go out and retrieve balls on a driving range.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 172 ✭✭Burgerman55

yes, i agree with you for the most part.

    safety must always come first.
I'm sure it would be distracting for other golfers also if there was a bloke out in the range collecting balls.

go for it though however if the range is quiet and your balls are within 40/50 metres IMO

    No

I agree with you burgerman - the driving range can be expensive but too be honnest - I prefer to pay 9/10 euros than receiving a ball in the head - even if you are careful and advise the guys on your right and left - you have genrally a few additional players in the line...

I suggested to bring mine first as I did not know it was a driving range otherwise - I wouldn't even have mentionned it!

The Darwin award - One guy got it even though he was still alive! We could have a second one!

In my local range I used to do that before they shut down. But I made sure there was nobody else around and it was also good for taking a wedge out and practising approach to the hill on front of me.

you are not permitted over the line, have you read the posts?even if you're the only person there, ffs

the range in enniscrone has no line
and you are encouraged to wander out and collect your balls, even if your driving them 300 yards down the range

If you are hitting your own golf balls then I'd call that a practice area, not a driving range per se.

Well my local didn't have a line or any signs saying not to go out onto the grassed area. ;)

I was just pointing out that I would only go if I was the only person there. :p

and i thought the burgerman was the only goon on this thread,do you bring your own balls aswell? If not, would there be a point in chipping the driving range balls that have no feel, and if your answer is yes what do you do when someone or a couple of people arive"Eh lads will ye hold your fire untill i go and get me balls back"clown:P

Ok I know I've mentioned this website before so I better not get kicked off for using it again. It simply has some unbeatable bargains! Since kevin Foy was mentioned, he's doing an offer on discountsonline.ie which I'm buying for my boyfriend, sounds too good to be true but here it is -

"€365 for a one year membership which entitles you to one lesson per day for THE WHOLE YEAR. Subject to reasonable terms and conditions, please call Kevin for info. Availability limited to 25."

I spoke to him, it's legit and the terms and conditions just mean that he will take a couple of weeks holidays in the year so you may not get 365 lessons haha. But I mean he charges €35 for half an hr so even if you went once a month you'd be saving 55 quid. If you got one a week you'd save a ridiculous €1,455. In fact I'm considering taking up golf to do this! Anyway amazing xmas present for anyone.
