Bio-med/Mech Eng Deg Students!

    Hi all.
Next year I hope to start studying for a engineering degree at NUIG, and I am very interested in the degree in Bio-med Eng. I would love to hear from future, current or passed students of this course, regarding their views on any and all aspects of the course. (Some other poster was of the opinion that Mech Eng with a master's in Bio-med was a better choice)

Just a bit of background on myself, I am currently working in the construction industry, I am a carpenter, and for the last few years aspired to further my education and lot in life by studying to become a civil engineer, so in the last few weeks I have applied for, and in a fortnights time will be starting, the NUIG foundation course for prospective Engineering/Science students. This course aims to bring those students who have been out of the eduction system for a while up to speed in Maths and the Science subjects needed for progression to the undergraduate courses.

However since looking into the courses on offer at NUIG, Civil Eng seems a little boring compared to the other fields of engineering, I guess from being in the construction game for so long Civil Eng seemed a natural choice for me, but on complication of the above mentioned foundation course I feel more confident of being able to pursue other fields of Engineering that otherwise were daunting to me.

    Many Thanks in advance Kev.

    Hey, I'm a 3rd year biomedical student..
It's a brilliant course, and very interesting, but it involves a lot of dedication and long hours. You work along side the mechanical students for most lectures and labs etc. However, biomedicals have slightly longer hours. In addition to mechanical engineering subjects, we do biology, anatomy, human body function, biomaterials and other more specific subjects. However, the majority of subjects are shared with mechanicals. If you are sure biomedical is the subject you are most interested with, go for it, otherwise mechanical is just as good.

(And I fully agree, Civil is a lot more boring!)
    (But a lot less work!)

    :)
