Are there are certs out there for storage? E.G. Do IBM do any certification based on their products and most of all would these be free?

I am not aware of any for free, They are allot of cert's for this area now. Maybe a good one to start on is the SNIA cert track.

All the major storage companies have their own certification programmes, EMC Proven Professional has enough tracks to suit any discipline within storage - don't think they (or any exam) are free - check them out: http://education.emc.com/guest/certification/default.aspx
