Aer Lingus Carry On Luggage

    Hi there...

I'm heading away Scuba diving soon and the first leg of the trip is Aer Lingus to London. I can bring 30Kg max without having to pay extra ( 20Kg check-in and 10Kg carry on ). I'll just about manage with the 30Kg, so I'm using as much of the 10Kg carry on as I can ( my carry on currently weighs 9.5Kg! ).

However, I'm putting a lot of stuff in there that I reckon is going to look dodgy in an X-Ray machine. I'll have my underwater camera, housing, flash, batteries & charger, iPod & charger, PSP & charger etc. Basically a lot of electronics and leads / wires etc.

As far as I know there's no problem bringing any of this stuff on-board with me, but is there any way I can make the security check easier? Should I practically empty out the bag and use a few of the baskets? I just want to avoid as much hassle as I can in the airport. Thanks!

    J.

They will see all the leads on their xray machine and take a good look at your bag contents no problem really as I brought over an alarm system during the year with control panel siren box GSM unit battery etc they just had a very good look.

Personally I would pay the extra. Scuba gear falls under sporting gear so you can add that as an additional checked in bag.

Any time I travel my carry on would resemble what you've described. It's never once had more than a second glance via the x-ray machine.
Seconded. Only last week I had a carry-on briefcase with ipod, large camera, USB lead, USB keys, 5 inch tripod, mouse for laptop, external hard drive, at least 8 AA batteries, phone, laptop power cable, 2 adapters. No problems at security, as the machine and/or operator is familiar with how this items show up in the scan. Now if you had a small sheet of metal that partially blocked the scan they would want to have a look.

I usually carry my laptop in one of those neoprene cover so I can put it thru on it own. I also had my liquids pre packed and ready to put thru on their own.
I have been stopped a few times and had my camera looked at, it a Canon S5, so bigger than normal but not as big as an SLR so can be placed inside my briefcase.

I regularly carry more gadgets through security than I could name here. Never had a problem. *But* a friend of mine once had to surrender a 50m network cable. That was German security. What they thought he could do with that cable is beyond me... It just goes to say that in the end, they have the ultimate power and they can invent the most arbitrary rules is they feel like it.
