Hey, quick question. Are you self-employed or employed by someone (as you say that your self-employed but the company you work for (?) is closing down?

if you are self employed you can apply for Jobseeker's Allowance - this is a means tested payment.

If you are being means tested and were paying PRSI at class 's' it will depend on your savings and household income. From what I hear if your partner has a good job and you have alot of savings you will probably get nothing.

However I did hear that even if you get nothing in terms of a payment from them based on your means, it might be worth while registering for JSA anyhow for credits/stamps (not sure what these contribute towards) which I guess are paid for you by the state when you are not working. Perhaps someone else might know more about this.

so it is worth going to the dole office even if you get nothing now (because of means) because it will contribute (by registering for JSA) towards your state pnesion in years to come should you qualify for one? for example

yes, you should go in and apply. If nothing else, you should be signing on for credits towards pension, etc.
