    Hi ,
I want to use my blackberry as a tethered modem on the Vodafone network.
Everything is set up on the laptop and the blackberry.
The dialer on the laptop is dialing *99#
The only thing I don't know is what username and password to put into the dialer so.
    Anybody know this?
I can't find an answer on the vodafone website and hung up after 20 minutes holding on their support line.
    Cheers,
    Sean

    Tried both but no luck.
It makes a connection but cannot get past the "Registering your computer on the network"

Do you have a serial connection setup between your phone and laptop?

How have you setup the connection? Is it through the Blackberry desktop manager or did you set it up manually within Windows?

When I installed the blackberry software that came with the phone it created the connection for me.

Try setting up a Bluetooth Dial up Network instead of the usb and then dial *99#

It maybe that the vodafone isp is not the default one, on my SE phone I had multiple data accounts, and to dial one in particular you had to find its ID e.g. 5,
then back on the laptop dials its specific number e.g. *99***5#

As billbond4 mentioned, if you're able, setup a Bluetooth dial-up connection manually, as this will be easier to manage. I also agree with the change in dial-up number; *99***1# is generally for use with non-Nokia handsets.

    Got it!
Had to do the following :
    Set up an Internet APN.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    Double-click Phone and Modem Options.
In the Phone and Modem Options window, click the Modems tab.
Select Standard Modem and click Properties.
    Click Change Settings.
In the Standard Modem Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
In the Extra initialization commands field, type the following:
    +cgdcont=1,"IP","isp.vodafone.ie"

For the dialer the username and password were both "vodafone"
as one of the earlier posts advised.

    Thanks for the help folks!

Great you got it to work, its very handy to be able to use your phone as a modem.

You dont need to use the term tethering when referring to using your phone as a modem, thats just a term that iphoners use.
