    Hi

I'm trying to get my uncle set up with the best TV and channel options, without having to pay through the nose i.e. I have no desire to bankroll Mr. Murdoch!!

He lives in rural Wicklow (not Mr. Murdoch, my uncle :) ) so no cable opportunities, so I guess it's FTA satellite. But I also realise that the Irish channels aren't available on this platform.

As I live outside Ireland I'm not totally up-to-date with the current situation. What I'd like to know is, is digital TV now available in Ireland and, if so, is there a set on the market that will pick up both satellite channels and the Irish channels without the need to have a separate aerial?

In the UK, I can pick up both the Freeview and the Freesat channels using one dish and wondered if it's the same in Ireland?

    Del

no, there isnt one that will pick up both using only satellite dish. (even in the UK)

you need an aerial for the rte stations,

you can get a combo box for sat and dtv, on the terrestrial forum there is a list of boxes.

OK, I'm a bit confused. I'm in an apartment block (in London) that has a communal satellite dish. It allows me to pick up both the Freeview on my Sony 40" via the inbuilt tuner, and Freesat via my Humax.

Are you saying that there is an Irish combo box that will pick up both sat FTA and Irish channels without the need for separate aerials, or a combo box that still needs separate aerials?

(I bet your freeview is received using an aerial on the roof)

what i am saying is he might be able to pick up the irish dtv depends where he lives and distance from a main transmitter.
Still requires aerial though, but if he can he will have all the channels on 1 epg. all bbc's etc on satellite and rte.

or just get an aerial for Analogue plug straight into tv and get a freesat tuner for satellite.

regardless of what he goes for you will not receive RTE via satellite without paying a sub to Sky.
