Aches and pains

I played a game of football last night and I have another game to play tonight.

My legs are a bit sore, aches in the joints of the knee and muscle pain in the legs from constant sprinting.

What would be a good treatment, besides rest as it's not an option I am going to take.

Would deep heat cream/spray help? Or something along the lines of Tiger Balm or Arnica cream help?

Is it plenty of water I need to try flush out lactic acid?

Or is there anything I can do relieve the aches and get through another match tonight.

    Thanks for any advice

    This is fairly general stuff.....

What you have is called DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). Tiger balm or that kind of craic will help it a bit. Mostly you'd be best to rest it but since it's not an option, I'd suggest the following:

Before your next game spend a long time warming up and warming down afterwards. Get some carbs and some protein into you after you're finished (preferably within 60 minutes)....half a litre to a litre of slimline milk will do the trick....this will help reduce the chances of it happening again.

Thanks very much. I would normally rest between games or any sort of exercise, and I don't normally exercise when I have muscle pains, but I do want to play tonight.

I warmed down a good bit last night and did some stretches which helped a lot. I'll be sure to warm up a lot before and after the game.

    Thanks
