This is a thread with a difference. If you could only watch one of these two big fights, which one and why?

I am going for Pavlik-Williams. Two action packed guys that are heavy handed and come to hurt. I see this as a real barn burner and pick Pavlik's power to be the difference.

The Pac-Cotto fight is intriguing, but I don't think both their styles make for as exciting a fight. I like the two power hitters Pavlik and Williams colliding

Which one, but only one. 8 votes

Jeez would have to go against most(i think) and go with Pavlik vs Williams, as i think its a fascinating match up with different styles, Pavlik will have the power for sure but can he stop Williams 90 to 100 punches a round? I don't think so and see Williams danching around the ring all night trying to avoid Pavliks big blows to win a on a split decision.
Cotto v Pacman is a great match up too, but more predictable in my opinion.

Pac vs Cotto. Reason: Im a bigger fan of the fighters, am very interested in the aftermath... who fights who, how Manny does, will cotto be as strong at 145, will Manny handle him in any way shape or form he did de la hoya or hatton. In fact after he beat diaz, he was interviewed post fight and he said maybe he would even go up in weight to fight hatton... when cottos name was mentioned he respectfully laughed off the challenge as if someone asked him fight wlad. It seemed a few steps too far only last year.

It will be a good fight however Pavlik Williams will probably be the better fight of the two.

joe, I like those reasons, varied and accurate and very succinct.
You could sway a voter with that.

Sitting on the fence here as i would watch either and would be pissed if i had to choose 1 over the other, if i could sky plus 1 and watch straight after i'd sky plus the pavlik williams fight..

off the fence, Cotto v pac

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

But Paul, you gotta' choose:). I know, it's a real tough one, but take the plunge.
    Who?

I'd go for Palvik V Williams as it will be a 50/50 fight as to who wins. Contrary to the prevailing view i think Cotto if he doesn't struggle with trimming down will beat Pacman quite easily.

I see Williams decisioning Pavlik due to his superior workrate and better defense. Although, there is a question mark over whether Williams can live with Pavlik's power - as he's not fought someone as heavy handed before. So it could be that Pavlik could be behind on points but his power being the difference maker late on.

it's going to be a tough decision, as to who to choose in the boxing comp' poll for this fight

Both of these are going to be fantastic fights. I would choose Cotto V Pac. Those are two of my favorite fighters at the moment. I really like Cotto's style and Manny, well the Pacman is the most exciting fighter on the planet.

This IMO is the litmus test for Manny. He is now fighting a bigger guy at the peak of his powers, not an old Oscar or a washed up Hatton but a genuine l4l boxer. Also the winner of this bout sets up a mouth watering fight with Floyd Money Mayweather. How the fight is won will also give us a great insight as to how these guys will deal with Floyd. For example if Manny takes Cottos best shots and still beats him it would increase his chances against Floyd. If Cotto can deal with the speed of Pacquio and also managed to stop him, that would be great indicator for his fight against Floyd

Because this is only a poll I will watch both fights...:pac: Pavlik V Williams is also going to be a great fight.

I think everyone on here will watch 2 if they can.

I reckon Mayweather weighed in at 146 against marquez so that he could pleed his case with Manny that he cant go any lower and will want the fight at 146 or 147. If he met jmm at 144, Manny would want him between 142 and 144.

If they were on at the same time id defo watch pac-cotto for reasons ive stated and plus pavlick-william but also because im less llikely to hear that result the next day.

Good idea for a thread, get the splinters outta your @$$ and vote :P

    +1 for Cotto-Pacman

Yea I have to agree with T-K-O and joepenguin - from a fan point of view I'm really looking forward to Cotto and Pacquiao! It sets it up for a Mayweather fight, no matter who wins.

Really looking forward to Pavlik V Williams as well though, that'll be savage. I think Williams might struggle with the power of Pavlik, assuming that all the stories of Pavlik being depressed and hitting the bottle fairly hard after the Hopkins defeat are exaggerated.

Would Floyd ever fight Williams? There'd be a fight...

Can I get a hell no!

If Pavilk is fighting fit I think he'll stop Williams in the later rounds.

Cotto vs Pac for me. Both good fights tho.

Why oh why did Pavlik take the Hopkins fight ?

Pavlik and co took that fight because they thought they could win it against the old man.

I've liked Williams since I seen him fight on the undercard of a big fight (cant think what fight) couple of years back when he won the WBO Welterweight title. He was only young at the time but looked like he had bags of talent.

Im going with the Pavlik - Williams cuz like someone said in a previous post its harder to call and the styles are a better match up.

Pacquiao - Cotto I think its in the bag for The Pac man in the same way Mayweather beat Marquez. No disrepect to Cotto but he's due a loss he's not the same unstoppable machine of a few years ago simply cuz hes fighting a better standard of fighter the likes of Clottey, Mosley, Margarito who beat him and srapping split decisions.

    Pacquiao will win comfortably:D

Pavlik - Williams I just cant call:confused: (That why it gets the nod from me)

    Pavlik-Williams for me.

The reason is simple, I love the middleweight division ever since I was a kid who got hooked on boxing through watching Hagler.

Ever since then the middleweight, and later the super middleweight, division has always been what caught my eye.

Hell, I even dreamt of fighting at middleweight when I was a kid, but as I grew up my body decided early on that my ring time was spent first at heavyweight and then at super heavyweight.

Pac-Cotto I will most likely watch, but it just does not hold the same interest for me as the Pavlik- Williams clash.

Cant see it happening but if Williams beat Pavlik at 160, then fought Floyd at 154 we could then give credit to the term pound for pound champion. No way it happens though.

Not a big fan of pavlik's style but enjoyed the only williams fight i saw when he completely outpunched margarito. It looks like should be a good fight. Id say pavlik will win but havn't seen enough of williams to really know if he can handle pavliks power or bring his own. Any details on TV for this fight.

Not a big fan of cotto's style either but i will still go for cotto pacman, even if it might be worse fight, simply because i've followed these fighters more. Reckon Pacman will win this one unless cotto catches him simply cos cotto seems slow and one dimensional in comparision.

Top Rank Statement On Kelly Pavlik
LAS VEGAS, NEV. (October 21, 2009) -- "This morning we were advised that Kelly Pavlik's recovery of his left hand has not progressed as projected by Dr. Peter J. Evans, Director of the Cleveland Clinic Upper Extremity Center,” said Todd duBoef, president of Top Tank, Pavlik’s promoter. “As a result of this Kelly is unable to close his left hand which prohibits him from being prepared for a December 5 middleweight championship defense against Paul Williams..

“We at Top Rank are disappointed by this unexpected development in his recovery. Once Pavlik is cleared medically by Dr. Evans we will pursue all avenues with regards to a future bout.

"We appreciate the understanding of Paul Williams, Goossen Tutor Promotions, HBO and Caesars Atlantic City with regards to this unforeseen occurrence."

And I believe Sugar Shane Mosley may be interested in replacing Pavlik at 154 lbs ,.... but will not fight at 160 .

Mosley's fight with Berto is rumoured to have fallen thru ,... and Shane is due the slot after HBO messed up his december fight against Clottey.

It may be very soon , but I know Mosley's been in training with his son in BigBear these days and is keeping sharp.
(was reading it on his twitter - no link Im afraid)

Mosley v. Williams would be awesome .

as first i read that as he was training with Big Ears:pac::o

damn it's a pity the fight with Pavlik has fallen through for now. Fair play to Mosley if he steps in. I'm not confident of his chances of winning, though.

Sure he cant get an opponent in the welterweight's ! time is running out for Shane !
He has a history of fighting bigger men , eg Vargas , Mayorga , Winky etc.
He has always sparred with middleweights and heavyier.

One of his regular s-partners is Enrique Ornelous who is taking Hopkins next.

It could happen if a weight is agreed.... thus saving a great card ,keeping everybody happy and wealthy

i wasn't basing my view on size difference, i meant that at 38 fighting a guy with Williams style is risky for anyone not just Mosley, but as you say time is running out and there doesn't seem to many other options available to him at the moment.

It appears to be sergio martinez in to fight the punisher .

it will happen at 160 , and with this short notice , Martinez can make that weight easy enough .
