    Hi all,

I was on here about a year ago and got some great advice and managed to lose 2 stone through this, well unfortunately I lost my way and have managed to gain 6lbs in the last 3 months. Anyways I back following my diet of watching calories and just have a question on caffeine. I used never drink coffee but started a new job a couple of months back and coffee is the handiest thing there to grab. I have one fairly big mug of black coffee no sugar at about 10 am. Just wondering what effect this could have on my diet.

Im currently 166lbs and hoping to lose 26lbs in about 6months

    Thanks

    Jessie

Probably none. It may even help it. Caffeine is a thermogenic, so it makes you feel hotter and causes your body to burn extra calories to do this. Most of the commercial weight loss pills on sale are based on caffeine and a sprinkle of vitamins or the herb of the day. The caffeine is the bit that works.

Also, there are a lot of health benefits to coffee. Regular moderate coffee drinkers tend to have fewer gallstones, less diabetes and better heart health! While blueberries may have more anti-oxidants, coffee is the number one source of anti-oxidents for most people.

Some people find that coffee can spike insulin, so if you suspect you may be one of them, make sure you drink your coffee without adding a biscuit.

It shouldn't (and there are a lot of bodybuilders how wouldn't dream of starting a workout without a stiff expresso first) but there is an ingrained habit of having a coffee and a biscuit or muffin.
