Sky boxes are designed to be left on standby. Downloads, Sky Anytime and Callback usually update in standby mode. Easier start up too.

Callbacks (where the sky box phones home to let them know he's OK and still on the same phoneline) are your first concern, as a Multiroom subscriber. Sky T&C say you must leave it powered on and connected to the phone line at all times.

If you power it off completely at night (as against standby), callbacks will likely fail too many times for Sky not to take notice. They'll usually send you a warning letter before doing anything about it (like charging you the full susbrcription price, not the discounted Multiroom price).

You can also try a trick that worked for me for over 3 months (I got it from Digital Spy). I'm not sure if it's a myth, but I never got in to any trouble with Sky. The trick is to do a manual call back every few days (I did it once a week) from both boxes on the same phoneline. The manual callback is done by going doing a New Install from within the hidden installer menu. Part of that is a callback. It also doesn't interfere with your existing recordings on a Sky+ box. Again, take this with a grain of salt, because I'm not sure how reliable the advice is. It did seem to work for me, however.

Turn my multi-room boxes off every night. Have done since I have had Sky, over 10 years between here and UK, 3 separate contracts, have never had any problems.

I don't have my boxes in phone lines, and apart from the day of install, never did. I have never received warning calls, or any mail from Sky other than the poxy Sky magazine.

If you order films etc maybe that would be a problem but I wouldn't worry otherwise. Maybe if you have had it less than a year and are nervous leave it on standby but I wouldn't bother.

I have Sky Multiroom and Sky+ for over 4 years...same as poster above, don't have it plugged into a phoneline but do leave it on standby at night! I have never once got a warning letter from them but I do know some people that have
