Just curious what people think of this gym. Trying to find a good gym, cheap and a good weights section. Also what are the changing rooms like, are they manky or well kept and are the showers communal or cubicles?

    cheers to anyone who replies

As far as I know (been a while since I've been there) they have very limited opening hours and don't open on Sundays.

I used to be a member there. The fitness classes are very good but can get a bit packed as they are very popular. The gym is very small and it's mostly guys who use it. When I was there the equipment was very old and it took a while to fix machines if they were broken. Most of the guys in the YMCA gym are hardcore, take their workouts very seriously and don't suffer fools gladly so it's fine if you're a seasoned gym user yourself. Otherwise you might want to go somewhere else. As with all gyms, lock away your valuables as there have been a few robberies there.

Can be packed most of the time. Showers are cubicles.
I'm a member there but won't be renewing as I'm a bit sick of the place, I like the fitness classes but the gym is poor. The music in the gym is always the same shítty depressing dance/rave CD's and there is usually a bad odour in the air.

    Agree with above.

The hours are a bit limited; last entry Sat is 1530, no entry Sun! (damn christians)

Gym is small and limited/old equipment.

Changing rooms small and dont feel particularly clean. Perhaps worth noting there is a little sauna.

Most people just leave their bags in the gym when working out, though there are lockers for which you will need to supply your own padlock.

The music is intolerable and very limited.

    The air generally stinks.

There is a reasonable number of female users, though I would say much less than a typical gym.

Some of the regulars leave much to be desired in terms of their manners, hygiene and general presence.

That said, it is cheap!! and you don't have to commit, you can pay per use, so, I continue to use it.

I agree with everything you said about the YMCA gym but there's no need to slag Christians or anyone else to make your point. Respect people of all faiths and beliefs please.
