Microsoft have launched their new free antivirus software suite for download from here: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

I used the Beta for a while- found it to be quite good- very low profile in comparison to some other packages. Providing frequent updates are made available- this could be people's freebie answer to all their security concerns.....

Does it mess with any other free anti-v programs? I use Avira and if this is better it'll be some freebie !!!

Its happily running alongside Avast on Vista HP SP2 here- I can't vouch for any other packages, but its not causing me any probs. Its initial scan was done in 20 mins or so (remarkable- I've 1TB of full harddrives, with almost 700,000 files......)

You know- I really should be looking for commission from Microsoft :)

You should never use 2 antivirus together as they can interfere with each other by blocking each other services while also increasing the performance hit on your computer as each file you use will be scanned twice.

If you must use two then disable active scanning on one and schedule a weekly scan therefore you will have the best of 2 detection methods.
