As far as I know, the HDMI cable does not carry Audio.
You will need to connect another audio cable from your laptop to your TV.
Depends on what you have at each end ( Laptop TV )

That's not exactly true - I can connect my laptop to my TV via a HDMI cable & the sound carries to the TV.

If you don't hear sound, try connecting an audio cable from the earphone socket to the audio input sockets on the back of your TV. A cheap cable costs around €2.

Sorry to hijack but i have similar problem. Like you there was no sound until i went into sound settings and changed it from speakers to SPDIF.

For me the sound keeps going...like it will play for 4min and then no sound what so ever. Some times might even play for 10 secs and then go. I've tried changing all the options i can but still no luck.

    Any ideas?
