Laptop monitor

Some time ago my monitor gave up and I'm only after hooking up another monitor to it. Last night I was messing around with the display settings and at one stage the external monitor stopped working and I could see a very faint picture on the laptop so I was able to change the display settings back to the external on (albeit with great difficulty as it was very very faint)

So my main question is based on the above info do you think my monitor could be repaired, if so roughly how much would it cost?

    Thanks

    Martin
