I noticed it's starting to get a bit nippy these days and for me the toughest thing about winter cycling is cold feet. Last year a guy on the club spins recommended these....unfortunately they are kind of hideous.....

I was just wondering what the euro brigade have to say on keeping your toes warm this winter.....

Leave, leave and never come back.

Those look awful, like surfing booties.

I bought those recently, except the road version. Cycleways were/are selling off the last of their stock and I got a great price.

    Since then it hasn't rained.

However, I'm not hugely optimistic about their performance, as when I bend my ankle a big gap opens in the top ready to let the rain in. I'll be wearing them with Sealskinz so they may be OK.

I think I'd want some with a decent neoprene cuff, like these.

A wonderful idea....but it would play havoc with Lumen's winter training....he'd have to head home early on every spin :D

I'm looking for something myself, considering the Shimano Gore-Tex boots on CRC. I will also get on to Cycleways to see if they still have any of those Northwave boots. To be honest all the winter boots look pretty similar, I think you just have to get over the aesthetics. SIDI do a boot but it is very expensive.

What's wrong with merino socks and warm overshoes?

Not warm enough when it gets really cold and wet.

There are times when it's okay not to go out cycling.

I'd recommend the Shimamo MT90 and MT70, from personal experience. I never ever got cold in the MT90s, even when MTBing in the worst conditions in winter here.

Harden up ladies..... Wear wollen socks and waterproof overshoes. Winter boots I didn't realise you all commuted over French Alpine passes in winter. Its Ireland not Siberia.

    Ride faster stay warmer.

I wouldnt bother by the time it gets too cold to cycle with a pair of shoe covers and a pair of sealskins the road will be too frosty/ icy to cycle. niceonetom, caroline, myself, blorg, LDB and one other (possibly the claw )know what happens when you try and cycle on very icy / frost roads.....

Mrs Rottenhat used to use those (not for cycling, mind you) - I think they're only good for a couple of hours, but you could check with her.

I've used these mountaineering (stuck between liner gloves and proper gloves in properly cold conditions they're great) - reuseable heat pads . Won't give anything close to 6hrs of heat though (maybe an hour, but very warm)

Not sure how you'd incorporate them into getting your feet warm cycling, maybe placing them between the top of shoe and overshoe?
