The Thing From Another World, Them! and a load of other 50's B-Movies. I think it'd be more fun to watch the old movies rather than a selection of more recent ones (with the token 70's slasher movie thrown in).

Here's the line-up. To be honest, it's pretty disappointing. Nothing tantalising. And definately nothing controversial like last year's showing of Martyrs.

    JENNIFER'S BODY (US, 2009)
    TRICK 'R TREAT
    (US, 2008)
    THE DISTURBED
    (Ireland, 2009)
    GRACE
    (US, 2009)
    BLACK DYNAMITE
    (US, 2009)
    DAY OF THE DEAD
    (US, 1985)
    ZONE OF THE DEAD
(Serbia, 2009) + guest, actor Ken Foree
    THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL
    (US, 2009)
    THE HILLS RUN RED
    (US, 2009)
    TONY
    (US, 2009)
    BLACK
    (France, 2008)
    SURPRISE FILM
    THE UNDYING
(US, 2009) + guest, director Steven Peros
NIGHTMARES IN RED, WHITE & BLUE
    (US, 2009)
    SALVAGE
    (UK, 2008)
    THE HORSEMAN
    (Australia, 2008)
    GREMLINS (70mm)
    (US, 1984)
    THE DESCENT 2
    (US, 2008)

Hmmm, apart from Gremlin there's nothing there I'd be remotely interested in seeing. And I'm not even that pushed to watch Gremlins. That list really is disappointing. :(

Gremlins isnt even really a horror movie tbh, although along with Die Hard its the best christmas movie ever :)

Would love to see Black Dynamite. But it doesn't exactly scream horror http://www.blackdynamitemovie.com/. Unless I'm thinking of a completely different flick.

JENNIFER'S BODY - Meh, getting terrible reviews and looks like a poor mans Faculty. The fact that it's one wide release pretty soon makes the showing a bit redundant.

TRICK 'R TREAT - The rips online and DVD/Blu Release in the coming weeks means that unless the film redefines what horror is most will give it a miss.

THE DISTURBED - Another very underwhelming prospect. I've heard nothing but bad things about this to date and on the basis of Dead Meat I have very low expectations.

GRACE - Again been available for moths now meaning that most horror fans will all ready have seen it.

BLACK DYNAMITE - No idea why this is here. Perhaps it's to make amends for subjecting past attendees to the Blaxorcist. If they are so starved for horror films they could always throw in a few classics.

DAY OF THE DEAD - One of the most tempting of the films on show. Which is kinda sad seeing as it's nearly 25 years old and we've all seen it a hundred times. A Dawn of the Dead screening would have made much more sense given the presence of Foree at the festival.

ZONE OF THE DEAD + guest, actor Ken Foree - Looks quite generic but the presence of Foree may make it worthwhile.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL - Love Larry Freserden and Ti West has shown promise. Reviews so far are good so this could be the festivals best offering.

THE HILLS RUN RED -- Again available for the last while meaning most fans have all ready watched it.

TONY - I'm assuming that this is in fact the UK production Tony. I've heard mixed reviews of this but the curio factor bodes well for it.

BLACK - Another wtf film? Black is an action thriller about a bank robber with little if any connection to the horror genre.

    SURPRISE FILM - What's betting it's Halloween 2.

THE UNDYING+ guest, director Steven Peros - This is the festivals one big coup, the European premier of what looks to be a very interesting film.

NIGHTMARES IN RED, WHITE & BLUE - This looks very interesting but I think that unless the director or interviewees are there it's best watched at home. The footage from the various films could make it worth a trip.

SALVAGE - Assuming this is the US film Salvage. Looks ok but most reviewers have said the twist is obvious from the onset and takes a lot away from the film. Could be worth seeing but there are copies floating around online so most horror fans will all ready have seen it.

THE HORSEMAN - This one look very interesting. Reviews are good and anyone who has seen it has liked it. Shame then that copies can be found if you look hard enough.

GREMLINS - While it would be nice to see on the big screen I would much prefer if they had gotten an actual horror film to screen. Would it be so hard to get a nice print of Halloween or the original Friday or even some Hammer horror or even any of the Phantasm films.

THE DESCENT 2 - Oh joy another pointless sequel which has been getting mediocre reviews from everyone who has seen it.

    don't look now

    the omen (original)

    the shining

That is a disappointing line up...probably the worst in years.

Nothing there I would really make an effort to go to the cinema to see tbh.

They should make an effort to show more classic stuff. Id love to see stuff like the wolfman or bride of frankenstein and a load of 50's b-movies with an audience. They need to show more 70's exploitation too....stuff like Black Christmas or a few Mario Bava films.

They showed Hammer's Dracula a couple years back and it was great with the audience. There's always too many mediocre modern horror films that dont have much to offer.....having said that it usually throws up one or two interesting screenings but this year there's nothing.

P.S. Im not bothering with the surprise film this year.....it's always sh1te.:p

I'll just go to everything like I always do. Sometimes I have as much fun seeing the absolute crap as much as the good stuff and for me seeing Gremlins on the big screen is fantastic.
I have no problem with the blaxploitation movies, I'd like a few exploitation and sci fi movies thrown in there every year. I loved the screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind a few years ago.

Definitely not the best line up though :(

To be fair, any film is available online if you look hard enough. I'd prefer to see it with an audience on the big screen than on my laptop.

I like the lineup this year. Its pretty much stuff I havent seen (aside from Gremlins, Day of the Dead and Trick or Treat, which by the way, is awesome) and the weekend is always a good laugh so as always I'm looking forward to it.

Also, REC 2 or Human Centipede for Surprise Film!

Trick R' Treat is fun. Captures the essence of Halloween and comic book horror pretty well I thought. Original Day of the Dead is a classic too.

I would have liked to see Martyrs there.

The Hills Run Red is also worth a watch, not powerful or a classic by any means, but worth a watch.

While that's true you don't expect to pay 9 or 10 euro to see a film which is readily available to buy in stores for nearly the same price. Many of the films being shown are on DVD or will be that weekend and while I do love to support horror cinema I'd much rather buy a film such as Hills Run Red for 12 euro than spend 10 euro to see it on the big screen. The others which I've acquired through various means will be watched on a 52" HD tv in the comfort of my own home.

Was sent that email list a while ago and it is pretty dire imo.

Captain Rhodes appearing at the Day of the Dead screening makes up for any of the other dodgy films. Choke on 'em!

I know what you mean but I do have a helluva lot of fun at this festival, its got a great atmosphere and watching some of these movies with a big crowd of horror fans is awesome with the right film. I actually think this years is better than last years line-up, aside from the fact that Martyrs was on last year and Midnight Meat Train, there was a lot of crud that year, Mindflesh, Plaguetown, Survaillence (spelling?!) and Mum and Dad. This year I'm actually quite excited, The Horseman, Day of the Dead, Jennifer's Body, Decent 2, Trick or Treat, Grace, Hills Run Red and Zone of the Dead. Plus despite being burned twice with the Surprise Film (Shrooms and Survaillence) I am always excited cause well...its a surprise.

Y'see the thing about downloading and watching at home is just like, why bother going to the movies at all? Ever? I guess I enjoy the cinema and enjoy the atmosphere generated by a audience in a hilariously crappy or genuinally scary horror movie.

Definitely going to Zone of the Dead, have to ask Keenan's dad what were his thoughts in his son's best friend clearly been down syndrome.
