Worth taking the job?

Am currently receiving full OPF allowance (app 230 euros) and almost full rent allowance (app 130 euros) a week.
May get the opportunity to do some part-time work which I would love as I really want to get back into the workforce. The wages would be app 200 euro a week.

Just wondering though if I would end up coming out with the same or even worse, less money per week after amendments are made to my payments?

I don't know how much or if all of my benefits would be cut so I'm kinda afraid to take the risk as I am a single parent who is struggling as it is and can't afford to be any worse off.

If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it as I'm just humming and haahing at the moment and really don't know whether it's worth it or not?

I think you should definately go for it as if your earnings are less than 500euro and you work 20 euro you could be entitled to FIS (see below). It also depends on whether or not your child/ren is at school and whether you have to take childcare costs into consideration.

You may be entitled to Family Income Supplement (FIS). Thresholds for you and your child are earnings of 500euro a week.
I think it's worked out like this.
500euro
minus your gross wages
difference x 60% = FIS payment.

I grabbed this info below from www.welfare.ie: Hope it helps.

You may qualify if you:

*
are an employee in paid full-time employment that is expected to last for 3 months,
*
work at least 19 hours every week, or 38 hours every fortnight,*
*
have an average weekly family income below the amounts outlined on page 4 for your family size,
*
have at least one qualified child who normally lives with you or is supported by you. A qualified child is any child under age 18 or aged 18 to 22 if in full-time education.

The first €146.50 of your weekly earnings is not taken into account. This means that you can earn up to €146.50 per week and qualify for the full One-Parent Family Payment.

go into one parent section on www.welfare.ie

Also the difference between your earnings and €146.50 are halved. It is your gross pay it is calculated on by the way, not net. PRSI is deducted for means however. On gross pay of €200 it won't make much of a difference to your One Parent Family.
Congrats on the job offer by the way!

Thanks so much for the info guys, it has really helped.
Just one more thing, will I definitely lose my rent allowance when I am working? I've looked it up but all I can seem to find is that you are ineligible for RA if you are in full-time employment, it doesn't say anyhting about part-time?
I'm thinking it would still be worth it anyway even if I do lose it but I'd just like to be fully informed on everything before I make any decisions.
Cheers.:)

I suggest you head into your local citizens' information bureau and have them look into it for you - you may lose your rent allowance and you may not, there's also FIS which you would probably be eligible for.

Still can't find an answer to this one. Been looking it up but it only mentions full-time employment, nothing about part-time. Still waiting for Citizens Info to get back to me.

Does anyone out there know if you can work part-time while on rent allowance???

Hi MelanieC

Does anyone out there know if you can work part-time while on rent allowance???

You are still eligible for rent supplement when working part-time - as long as you work less than 30 hours per week. You can work more than 30 hours per week if you've been accepted under the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS).

Your income will affect your rent supplement (although some disregards apply) and may mean you are no longer entitled to a payment. This is something you will need to discuss with your CWO.
