    Hi All,

Just thought I'd drop by this end of boards to say hello. I was in cycling club for years when I was younger and decided to get back on the saddle thanks to the cycle to work scheme and my job relocating from the City Centre (Dublin) to Cabinteely (I live on the other side in Killester). Never was a fan cycling in the city so avoided it. Now that I can skip town altogether by using the East Link (and that my current commute is an hour and a half to 2 hours each way involving four buses a day) I though I'd give cycling a shot again.

The new bike should be arriving sometime next month so if anyone is here a regular Howth hill climber you may see a new face at the weekends trying to tone up!

    Well done!

The east link is fine, just don't try to go on the inside of a HGV....ever!

What's the preferred route over the east link? Bypass the toll and through Ringsend?

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

The route I'll be taking each morning will be coastal for most of the journey (trying to keep it as flat as possible) so Clontarf -> East Link -> Sandymount -> Booterstown -> Blackrock. From there its inland through towards Deansgrange and finally Cabinteely. I think its in around 18km so I'm hoping to cut my commute time in half.

I tend to just go through the toll. There's a gap for bikes on the far left of it, so you can just sail through without stopping.

Bikes are free on the East Link anyway, but there is a way onto the bridge from Ringsend basically just at the end of the bridge (avoiding the toll plaza.) That is generally the way I go, given where I am coming from it makes most sense.

Mine is about the same and it takes about 50 minutes - I'd say you'll notice the difference between that and taking 4 different buses all right.

True that. Not much room coming away from the toll area on the southside, and there are drains about every 20 metres, so you have to cycle assertively and make space for yourself.

Also, according to google maps it's ~2/3 of a K shorter to go through ringsend and out the coast as opposed to going through the toll plaza and down by Irish Glass
