saw a garda (parked her bicycle) near there to stop traffic moving (the little alleyway down the back by DIT Campus - not the Kevin Street campus)

there was a small fire in the canteen from what i heard but the college is closed now till about 5 at the earliest it seems dont think anyone was hurt. shows the irishness that now a fire alarm needs to be followed up by a intercom telling you there is an actually fire

Yes there was a fire in Aungier st about 2.10pm approx. It started in the kitchen area of the canteen on the first floor. I havn't heard of any injuries.
It took quite a long time to evecuate the building, don't think too many people believed that there was an actual fire until it was annonced over the intercom!
The building is now closed until 5pm this evening when people should come in and collect there belongings....

I can't see why there wouldn't be really! Like it's only a small section of the building that was affected...

I know I was wishing the same thing!!:D

Somebody mentioned that night classes were going ahead tonight, but I couldn't confirm this!

We were sitting in a computer lab with the legend flanagan when the alarm went off. We all assumed it was a false alarm so we stayed in the class till a voice came on the intercom declaring it was real. Everyone then slowly walked out the building and it was packed outside, for some reason it was neccasry for five fire trucks to come up and then four drove away while the other just kinda stayed there.

I was there when they conducted a very sedate evacuation around two. From what I heard from the official looking people there they were going to let people back in at five to collect bags and such, so I'm sure classes are on tomorrow.

Having ignored all the fire safety advice and taken all my stuff with me when the alarm went, I just decided to go home.

i was there. we were sitting in class and the alarm went off, everybody stayed in their seat and it went off after about a minute. then a voice came on over the intercom telling us that is was in fact a real fire and not just a drill. there was a good bit of smoke coming from the first floor window and then it started to come out of the vent.

The firetrucks and mass of students slowed traffic enough to make me late for my first lecture in Trinity, damn you DIT!

The building will reopen as usual at 8:00am on Tuesday 29th September We apologise for the inconvenience.

I'd say when Dublin Fire Brigade get a call that a college of however many thousand people is on fire they just throw eveything they have at it to be safe, tbh.

Interesting. A fire in a college so all the students stand in the door way, along the wall and under the window where the fire was  Is there not meant to be some sort of fire assembly area?
Wonder what degree's people are doing?

What was really bad about this was that our lecturer ignored
the alarm too for about 3 mins before deciding to get his stuff and head off.Aren't they suppoosed to know what the fire alarm is and evacuate the palce or are they on a work to rule over all the cuts?

God no They would Treat it as Normal as any other fire , They certinly would not throw everting away to run to a couple 1000 students they would do it calmly like every other incident and it was not major and there was app 25ff on secene.
