I called UPC and they sent out a new remote but I have the same problems. I haven't studied this scientifically but it seems that if you have the box on for 45 mins or so the remote starts working. Probably a red herring but thought I'd mention it.

Both remotes worked perfectly on the TV so I am now thinking it is a problem with the infra red sensor on the box - maybe it needs to warm up?

Has anyone had a similar problem?
