Just wondering if you would consider renting a wedding dress...or have you done it???

I don't think I would consider it TBH. If I was tight for money (as I very well may be) I'd look on ebay and in the oxfam bridal shop. I'd bet you could buy a dress for around the same price as renting one, and it means of course, that you can have it tailored to fit you perfectly, which you couldn't do with a rental.

I know someone who did it. I thought the best thing was that she just handed it back dirty and didn't have to go to the bother/expense of cleaning it.

As far as I remember I think it cost about 350 pounds (maybe 10 yrs ago) which included insurance for the dress.

but you can buy new ones on ebay for very cheap. I saw one for €75, another very ornate one for €148. Now granted they had some time before the bidding ended, but if it's money reasons, have a look an ebay. I already have 6 dresses picked out. :( Decisions decisions.

Renting a dress allows you to wear a top end designer dress for a fraction of the cost. You also don't end up with a white dress that you will never wear again hanging in your wardrobe.
You also have the experience of going and trying on dresses and seeing what suits.

Ebay - I know someone who bought 2 dresses on Ebay, she ended up wearing neither and had to buy a dress in Ireland anyway.

My aunt did this. The woman who rents them out is a dressmaker so she made the dress and after the wedding my aunt just left it back. She also could have chosen from over 100 already made ones.

I think it's a great idea and I'll probably consider doing it myself - I'm not very sentimental about things and I seriously doubt I'd look at the dress again after the big day

I never thought of the designer aspect. If you want a top end designer dress thats a different story. I'm stupidly sentimental though, so being able to keep it would be a bigger thing to me than having a designer item. And then there would be the the fact I can get it fitted to me if I need to. I still of course have to go and try on dresses to see what suits, once I get my shape I should know what to look out for.

I'm suprised about the woman who bought 2 dresses on ebay and was not happy with either, I know several people who bought one and were delighted. (I mean two who bought wedding dresses, one of them also got her BM dresses and then a few people who bought ball gowns for various reasons)
