Favourite movie on Blu-Ray

I watched 30 days of night the other night on blu-ray and was blown away by the quality of it. The transfer, audio and sharpness of the image was very impressive compared to the same movie on DVD. Some scenes (alaskan wilderness ones) were pretty stunning and really effected the impression you get from the location etc.

So I thought I would start a thread to ask what are peoples favourite movie specifically on blu-ray format and the reasons why ? This is not a thread about technology or formats so it would have to be a good movie to begin with but one that is particularly improved a lot by the different format.

I don't think this thread would belong in a tech forum as it is directed at movie fans.

    30 Days of night

For me itd be a toss up between The Dark Knight, purely for the IMAX scenes, and Speed Racer, which looks absolutely stunning, whatever you think about the movie as its not without its massive faults but the picture quality on it is something to behold, why plces that sell tvs dont have it on loop in the store is beyond me, the tv would sell itself showing it

Wall-e looks fantastic. As does Rock and Rolla(even if the movie itself is a bit pants).

I liked rock and rolla actually so will probably check that one out - cheers. Also heard about sunshine being a great BR, and had a feeling speed racer would look good too.

Another vote for Sunshine, it's outstanding. Hellboy II looks great too. Must get my hands on Wall-e.

+1 for Hellboy 2, stunning looking, the Planet Earth boxset is well worth investing in too, purely for the hd footage of the scenery, its not all in hd as only some of the episodes were shot with hd cams, the aerial and dynamic shots mostly, but its looks amazing anyway

The sound in Wall-e was absolutely amazing and totally blew me away.

Visual-wise I have to say the Planet Earth documentary series. Some of the scenes make you feel like you are sitting right beside the camera-man.

Not a movie, but recently got the Band of Brothers TV series on Blu-Ray. The sound is truly impressive. You don't even need a top-end system to appreciate how good the sound is.

Just so it doesn't turn into just a list maybe people should explain what they loved about the BD. Just a suggestion.

Animated: Wall-e. Designed for BD really. The flying scenes: Breath taking. Plus, ya gotta listen to the commentary. Two nerd blokes and a non nerd woman talking. Funny to hear amusement at their insights
although, I must admit I did notice the Aliens iron bar when seeing Wall-e in the cinema so what does that say about me :)

Live action: The Dark Knight. the IMAX scenes look just AMAZING. Very cleverly integrated with the non-IMAX scenes too I thought.

I know it's not a movie but the BD version of Battlestar Galactica (Reboot) is amazing too. Not so much the miniseries but the series itself looks incredible

Apocalypto was my first Blu-Ray, and what an introduction! The clarity in the jungle scenes is fantastic, while the river scenes look amazing.
The Dark Knight is great too, particularly the opening scene. So... much.... clarity... *drools* Not to mention the sound is perfect.
Terminator 2 despite being an old film looks brilliant on Blu-Ray. Although it's too good in parts, eg: the stuntmen are easier to spot in hi-def.

I'm hoping to pick up Planet Earth on Blu Ray at some point. I'm a huge fan of the BBC's natural history work and want to see it in all of its glory!

Not really a movie, but "Planet Earth" is just jaw dropping in HD.

Beowulf: Say what you want about the movie (I really liked it tbh) but it looks fantastic in 1080p with full Dolby TrueHD surround sound.

The Fountain: Another film which has some draw dropping HD sequences

The Fall: There are some excellent panoramic and visually spectacular sequences in this movie that are really best viewed in HD

I enjoyed it and thought it (Casino Royale) was great transfer. The screenshot is from blyray.com. The reviewer also thought it was a very good transfer and I still do. I also thought it was a bloody good film even if I doubted Craig before it was released.
