Wii Game suggestions

I grew up playing Commodore64 and Amiga games and they both had so many games that were really good and addictive.

After a few years break from gaming I got an xbox (original) and also have a wii (bought for the kids, yeah right),

But to be honest, there hasn't been a game that I have really got into on the latter consoles. I know I don't have the time to put into games like in my youth but regardless, I find games now to be so worried about the graphics and the number of buttons on a controller. Games can take ages to learn and during the game can be a little boring.

For instance, none of the FIFA or PES versions can match the intensity of Sensible Soccer. Simple graphics and controls but constant action and fantastic gameplay. Your thought had to be quick but you were thinking about the game rather than what A/B/X/Y button to press.

What made me think of this was from playing the Tank game within Wii Play. I think this is a great little game. Constant action, easy to control, 2 buttons.

I don't know if anyone agrees with me (you could think I've just grown too old for gaming) but thats my thoughts. If there are games on the Wii which you find are good on action/intensity and relatively easy to pick up, then I would appreciate to know what they are.

Mario Galaxy really is a must. It's one of the few games around today that is just built around being a load of fun.

There's a few other old school type gems that you should like like house of the dead overkill and mercury revolution (should be going for peanuts now).

There's also the virtual console were you'll find a load of old classics.

You could start researching getting Homebrew up and running on your Wii for some old-school fun.

This one may be of particular interest to you:

Second Galaxy, and VC but you really ought to try Mario Kart Wii controls are a peach (sorry:o).

Also worth considering Boom Blox, Super Paper Mario, and Grand Slam Tennis:)

I grew up on the amiga too (kick off 2 better than sensi soccer tho imo!) but on the wii you should really try Resident Evil 4. You should be able to pick it up cheapish now. Give it a few hours (get past the first village scene) and you'll be sucked into one of the all-time great video game experiences.

Zelda Twilight Princess doesn't have difficult controls and is easy enough to get into. Agree with everyone elses choices as well, all great games.

    Also Wii Sports Resort.

A few probably cheap by now games: Ghost Squad for brainless shooting, Warioware smoothmoves is fun and easy. eledees was a good, original game and Heatseeker was a fun aircraft based blast. As well as all the games we have all listed you have the Gamecube back catalogue to go through too (more Zelda, Luigis Mansion, F Zero). Ah, the wonders of Nintendo.

Thanks for all the replies. I have Mario Galaxy and haven't really given it a chance yet so I'll give that a go again. The problem I found when I did play it was that it was fairly massive and the action wasn't constant.

I have res evil 4 too and I like it. Can get a bit boring though walking about wondering where to go next. The action is great though and controls easy to use.

I have boom blox and its quite good. Defo worth trying that out again.

I'll probably pick up Wii Sports Resort as the original is a good laugh and with the kids too.

I haven't read enough about the Homebrew channel to try it. I'm usually first to hack any gadget I have but the Wii is used by the kids so I'm a little apprehensive just in case I muck it up.

A lot of the suggestions are role playing/platform type games. Roaming about waiting for the next bit of fun ruins it for me. Maybe I just prefer sports games/shootem ups where its constant action.

Another oldie from the amiga was Speedball 2. I'd love if there was an equivalent to that on the wii. That would be excellent.

And its not I want to play those games of old. I can run an emulator on the PC for that. I want the gameplay that those games had but with the added extra of the modern power(gfx/sound/motion) of a console.
