    Hi,

Its a Nissan Micra with a different body attached, so I would imagine they are reliable like a Micra. All these cars you see will be 1991 as that is the year they were imported here.

Dont like them myself, im all about moving with the times...
Those pictures make it look like it was abandoned in the Dublin mountains!

bit of vrt to be done on this one -

Very reliable little cars but as they are a convertable, watch for water ingress.

This is the car you will be driving:

They're all nearly twenty years old, so they'll rattle and squeak like any other convertible from that era, so don't expect it to be as nice to drive as a new Micra.

so, what your saying is it will quallify for classic ins in a couple of years and i should wait :) are they really leeky? i'd luv a pink one but the yellow is cool i dont' like the grey ones. Like what's the point?

    Nostalgia:)

so do you experts think this is a good car for fun and a learnr?

Not great for learners, as they are all autos. A plan might be to get a cheap Micra, and change to a Figaro as a reward when you pass your test.

Figaros don't depreciate at all, so you'll get your money back when you get fed up, and the cabin may be the best Japanese car to sit in, ever.

These things seem to hold price fairly well.

I never realised that they were convertibles!

That Copen looks like a Lexus that shrunk in the wash (only better looking!)

No, but I'm sure the language specific forums under the Soc category might allow it.

Well there have been numerous rumours surrounding his sexuality for years now.... Oh wait Figaro, no he has nothing at all to do with them.

indeed, back on topic. The figaro like all jap imports, will not qualify for classic insurance as under writers have zero interest in covering them.
Back to the drawingboard it is then if that was your motivation to get one.:(

I can't imagine the insurance being that high on it though?

As someone said, they're all auto so if you did your test in one, you'd only have a licence to drive an automatic.

My girlfriends sister owns a Figaro, and while it is a complete girls car, they are cool. The interior is fantasically retro. If you like them, go for it. Tellow is shocking though, my personal choice would be the green.
AFAIK, they only came in 4 colours - Green, yellow, pink, and greyish blue.

Please check out these websites and decide for yourself:

    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=783
    http://nissanfigaro.org

Figaros will only hold their value if they haven't been crashed and repaired. once they are a huge chunk will come off their value. get any potential one checked by a pro if you're paying big money for one. If you mind it you should get all your money back in the future.

The four original colours were Emerald Green, Pale Aqua, Lapis Gray and Topaz Mist, which is a lighter grey. Edit: No, it's more of a caramel colour, actually.

All the pink, yellow, black, or red ones have been resprayed.

I think they are a beautiful car. They are a concept car based on the old micra engine. They are all automatic and the roof folds down, though I don't think its fully convertible. They are all 1991 and are a limited edition. Nissan Bolero was another concept car they made around the same time, as was the Nissan Pao. I like the Pao and the Figaro. Really reliable little engine and these jap imports are usually in great condition and with low milage. Check out a few of them and try to find a garage you trust. Lovely car and cheap to run and tax. Quirky, cute and a bit different. I think you should go for it!

Here are some pics of the Bolero and the Pao.... the Pao is really retro inside. I love them! :)

Imperial Cars specialise in Figaros, I was chatting to the guy that owns it and he's very helpful and knowledgable but his prices are a bit steep. I'd look in the UK TBH.

VRT is €2016 which is based on an open market selling price of €8,400, which in turn is based on the €9950 figure that Imperial Cars have on 15 or so Figaros they have in stock....

There are some excellent UK Figaro specialists that could probably undercut Imperial, but there's a lot to be said for having the backup of a local specialist like Imperial......

    UK specialist here:

Not a huge amount to be saved there.

you could also go down the road of buying a cheaper one that has been previously damaged and repaired. There are none of these on Carzone at the moment though :(

micra with a horrible body attached, but there seems to be something built into them that makes everyone who drives one (and yes theres 4 in terenure) an absolute knob who cant keep a car straight or respect yellow boxes whatsoever . horrible cars i think them and their owners need to die in a fire

It would be well worth the guts of €10k if Lucy Kennedy 'came' with (or in) it!

I would certainly be willing to make 'The Big Switch' for that!

    Sorry!

There's absolutely no need for nasty posts like that. Tone it down please.

ok, fair do's with the thoughts but suggesting going to the uk for a car is midleading. There is plenty of secondhand well kept figaros for sale here in Ireland that represent good value - a lot cheaper than going to the uk.

there are 21 or so Figaros on Carzone. 9 are in the same garage. great selection alright.

For example, there's a green one in a Figaro specialists on Autotrader for £3095, which is €3,361, add €2016 VRT and €300 travel costs and you get a total of €7,393.

    cool pic here :)

I passed one of these on the way home last, and thought the exact same thing! Newer, manual gearbox, full metal hardtop, and lower mileage that most Figaros.

I think the Bolero was in the March Mark 2 and present ranges. The Figaro was part of the PIKE series of Nissan vehicles on the march floorpan. There is a van called the S-Cargo (12,000 were built) that was also utilised on this floorpan from 1989 - 1992.

    250px-Nissan_S-Cargo_001.JPG

The Figaro was designed by someone who won a Nissan car design competition and initially 8000 were only available, 12000 were later built and available on a lottery system to be offered to prospective customers. It was available as a NEW grey import in the UK the same year, although I dont know how many were sold, probably a few. It appears to be popular with celebs in London. I guess that because so many of them are now in Europe and elsewhere, then there must be very few left in Japan now :(

By the way, if you think the car is over-priced, try buying a sales brochure, the cover shown here which looks more like a Movie poster! or even the 1/40 scale model by Diapet. They are going for silly prices, anything from 60 to 100 Euros or more.
