Just to let you know that well know writer, historian and walking enthusiast Michael Fewer will guide a scenic walk along a section of the Wicklow Way as part of National Trails day this year.

The Wicklow Way was the first National Waymarked Way – multi day walking route developed in Ireland in 1980. The route was planned and largely developed by JB Malone and covers a distance of 132km (81 miles) commencing in Marley Park, Dublin and finishing in the beautiful village of Clonegal in Co. Carlow.

Meeting point for the walk is at the official start of the Wicklow Way beside the map board in the main car park at Marlay Park (entrance on Grange Rd.) in Rathfarnham. A bus transfer will be provided, free of charge, from here to Crone Woods where the walking will start. The walk will be about 10km long and there will be a bus pick up at the end point returning again to Marlay Park.Participants must wear sturdy boots and suitable outdoor clothing. A day sack with warm clothing and raingear, and a light lunch and a drink is advised.

You will need to register your participation on this walk by calling Doug Corrie on 018608839 as places are limited.

Information on this and other National Trails Day events around the country can be viewed on www.nationatrailsday.ie.
