Online check-in is available from 21 days up to 4 hours prior to scheduled flight departure. (Once you have checked in online by the 4 hour deadline your boarding pass can be reprinted up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure)

what is the point of ryanair having check in at all? they don't oversell planes, they don't have stand bys.

If you are checked in, they assume you are flying. So the number of people checked in gives them a somewhat better idea of how many people to expect. I once checked in but ended up taking a different flight. They were calling my name again and again and again at the airport, expecting me to be there.

I thought they never did name calls at the gates? It is your own tough luck if you are not there. That would be the Ryanair way.

It was Ryanair and they did call my name. That was back in February of this year. The policy might have changed since then.
