    Hi Everyone

I wonder if anyone has had any experience with these Internet based self publishing companies like Lulu and others? I have a new book coming out shortly and I'm rather tempted to give one of them a try. Thus if anyone has had first hand experience of them and have used their facilities I would be very interested in your views.

The best thing to do is google the names like authorhouse etc. I keyed in "has anyone had any problems with using authorhouse". I found loads of user stories, many are about how much money you pay in advance and the level of service recieved. I have to admit it put me off submitting mine.

Bunny in many ways your fears are my fears too. That is why I am so concerned to take soundings of others who have gone down this road.

    I appreciate it

Bunny, I did as you suggest and it is clear that there are many disgruntled folks out there. Read the attached for example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080214095627AA9KboM

My only experience has been in buying books and it strikes me that overall the standard of presentation is well, 'unexciting.' The limitations that each places on the size of publications for printing is very constricting. On the other hand the cost of publishing low numbers is very attractive and significantly underwrites the risk issue.

What type of book are you looking to print? Is it just words or is it artwork? If it's heavy on the art side try one of the comic book POD's like comixpress or FAM, I've used both and am very happy with the quality of the work and service. Be warned they can be slow esp if your trying to get stuff printed near a big comic con deadline.

I would recommend that you buy the Writers Handbook, it is reviewed annually and has listings of publishers. The other alternative is to take a leap of faith and try on line. http://www.thewritershandbook.com/

    Good Luck

These are both very good suggestions. Yes the book does carry a lot of illustrations. If it was only text based I would be less concerned. Thanks again
