Cap seal is not the best, but the rusty colour, what is that from?

Can ask the guys at www.mr2.ie

Have an Mr2 my self and the water is rusty looking in mine also "i need to clean it". I don't think that is a problem but you should clean the system a few times and this should clear it up.

    Edit: re read your post

You can buy a new cap and that might solve the problem of leaking water from the cap.

The cap is on and the water leaks, a bit of the surrounding area is rusty too, looks like it happened before...

19 year old radiator, so it could need replacing soon. A good flushing out and a check of the cap seal, even a new radiator cap. If no improvement.
    New rad time!

You don't think its a blown head gasket?

If its blowing i think you would see lots of water been burnt off from the exhaust. So after a drive and the car is well warm go look at the exhaust and if its pumping out "white still as if its cold" that will be water.

Also can check under your oil cap and if their is lots of gunk, this is also a sign that its blowing.

No one can tell for sure if its blowing or not. Can also get it checked out.

I would imagine it's a radiator problem more than anything else. The core is most likely rotten.

I had the same problem, stuck a new rad in and hey presto
