have cancelled upc and getting sky. we currently have upc with 4 tv points which we pay rental for. will they bother to send a engineer to remove them or will they do anything at all like cut the connection in the house?

If you aren't paying them I suppose they will cut the connection to your house.

Yes they will cut the connection but it could take months before they actually bother...depends on how far away from their nearest depot you are...

What about the tv points and digital box?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

They won't remove any cables or outlet boxes from walls. They just kill the feed from outside. They may want to collect the set top box if it's a DVR.

ah well i have an old pace box the small one, doubt they will connect it. anyway sky re used the cables so the feed is dead now.

i wonder if i reconnected the feed would it stay or eventually stop working?

When the box is not returned, they will (eventually) send you a bill for not returning it.

Call them now and ask for them to collect the box, they wont bother, but at least when then they a bill, you can be rightly indignant and give out at their incompetence.

That's theft of service, once you stipped paying, and not allowed to be discussed here.

im still paying as i gave the 30 day notice. my question just would an engineer come out to the house and just disconnect the service?

though i could use for 30 days and then stop using it then.

Cancelled mine and got a call on Fri about collecting the box. Was surprised they would bother as well since only the old pace box but seems they want it back. It was only a little over a week since i cancelled and since they insisted on a 30 day notice period I told them i wouldn't let them collect the box until this is up, cheeky buggers.

Ah right I wonder will they collect ours! As we now have no needfor it as we reused the ntl cable for the sky install

Every two weeks, you'll get a letter addressed to 'The Resident' trying to get you to sign up again.

After the 30 days, yes, an Engineer will arrive at some stage and disconnect the cable outside your house.

One of my mates cancelled his basic NTL to go travelling, they never bothered to come out and disconnect it and when he came back and plugged in his TV he still had the analog chanels and still doesnt pay for them many years later.

In what way will they disconnect, like un screw the feed from the box outside the house or will they just cut the cable reason I ask I cancelled but sky cut it already re using the cable and want to connect it back till the 30 day notice is served. As I'm still paying for ntl but can't use it!

Hi I got sky in but the installer used the ntl feed and now I have no ntl in the house. I have the 30 days notice but my question is if I rang ntl would they send an engineer our to restore the feed till the notice is reached?

It's just so I can value of the analogue since I'm still paying for it

€50 is the charge to install a new TV point, so that would be the min you should expect to pay. But since you have also cancelled, I cant even see them wanting to do the job as its not worth it to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,002 ✭✭✭ipodrocker

Wow that's a bit steep basically I have cable need it reconnecting but 50 for 25 days or so I might pass on it

guess I could ring them see what they say

Well then you should not have let the Sky engineer use the cables. You have two open threads on this. Your NTL is gone, best forget about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

Ring Sky. They disconnected the NTL feed. They've caused your problem.

Seriously, did you need to start another thread just for this?

I cancelled NTL earlier this year and they never even mentioned the box or have tried to collect or ask for its return.

Why on earth did you let the Sky installer hijack the cableing anyway?

Did they ask for your permission or did they just do it the lazy way out and not tell you?

well they asked could they reuse some of the cable from one of the rooms which was fine, but i was not under the impression they were using the cable main feed. as a result i have ntl still in the upstairs but no feed as it was cut. i wondered is it too much hassle for them to come out and fix the problem even though i will end my contract in mid october.

Lazy feckers, they just didn't want to bother drilling new holes etc., besides with your installation fee you're paying for the new cabling and everything that goes with it.

    Wishful thinking.

I would reccomend you get back to the Sky installers about it rather than NTL/UPC, they really won't be interested.

Having said that, they Sky crowd will probably tell you that they cannot go near NTL's cableing/equipment as they are not allowed to, even though one of their smart installers already did.

Did you get Sky themselves to install it or did you go independent?

I'm afraid that is your problem, you left Sky cut your cable. If you want to reconnect Sky, you'll need to do it yourself or UPC will probably charge you to send out an engineer to fix it.

ipodrocker, please don't open multiple threads on the same subject. I've merged these threads.
