Adding a breakfast bar, expensive!

Bought our house last year and always thought the kitchen is a bit small. Contacted the kitchen company that fitted it (nearly 5 years ago) to quote getting matching materials for a breakfast bar and can't get over the price, is this normal?!

    - Bog standard birch finish presses, black normal worktop (not granite, etc)
    - Measurements for the breakfast bar are 160cm x 60cm

So for the worktop, 2 presses and the back panel, etc the quote came in at 725. To add lemans inserts and sliding drawers for the two presses is an additional 300 for the lemans and 50 per sliding drawer (where 3 would be ideal)

So all in to add this small extension will come in at 1175!

Anyone have any ideas of any way to get this any cheaper? I presume as it's hitting 5 years old no one else will have the same presses around and I haven't a clue if the design has a 'name' to even go about sourcing it elsewhere..

It does sound a tad expensive alright. I bought a house 4 years ago and we had an allowance of 2500e for a full kitchen- mdf. That was a decent sized kitchen. Obviously if he is the only one who can supply that kitchen then he has you by the goolies. If you are talking about spending that money you could look at replacing the whole kitchen for twice the amount. Price a replacement kitchen with an alternative supplier and then you will know it this guy is taking you for a ride. Perhaps there is a lot of labour in matching the new with the old.
