    Well back in the 30s the standard of Olympiads wasn't exactly up to today's standard

    I saw this before and while it is mentioned in a few places I could not find any details. There was also a 1940 bid.

    I guess it was a cheap way of raising the profile of the newly founded Irish Free State internationally.
