Weak Grip Cured My Slice.....????

I've been playin golf about 3 years now. I'm a 16 handicap but I know I can get lower than that. Anyway, I have always used a strong grip (right handed with thumb of left hand rotated to the right of the shaft showing more knuckels). My swing is decent and most parts about it are good, however I always hit the ball with a slight fade and when I hit a bad shot I always slice. I never really draw and dont often hit perfectly straight, my good shots always have a tiny fade.

In the last few days I started to use a weak grip (thumb of left hand lying directly down the centre of the shaft and thumb of right hand more or less down the centre of the shaft also) and I have been hitting perfectly straight. The grip feels a bit alien right now but I like it. This dosent make sence to me though cause I always thought a strong grip sorts out a slice and a weak grip exagerates it.

Get a lesson to see why you are slicing

Technically speaking your correct about about the grip but it's still only one component of the swing although an important one.
Btw a shot shape with a slight fade and never hooking is very desirable.

+1 on the one component comment. OP when you fade/slice does the ball start straight and then cut or start right and cut some more?

I prefer to hit a draw as it happens to suit 90% of the holes on my course and is also less affected by the wind...

Changing grip may have changed other things such as swing plane, club rotation, club face through contact etc. More orthodox grip may have given you a more correct and fluid swing, which would lead to straighter shots... until the next problem comes along! Agree with post that reliable fade is better than swing which could go anywhere. I should know:(

When I slice, the ball starts straight, gives me the two fingers and then heads off to the wrong fairway.

The weak grip is feeling better and better and maybe it is correcting something in my swing. The way I look at it is the weak grip is what should be aimed for as thats what pros use. I have used the strong grip and worked on basic aspects of my swing, so now I think I'll go with this and if I keep hittin straight, then happy days.

Thats caused by the clubface being open on impact. See here for more info. So your swing is "probably" ok and its just your grip that you need to adjust. Id get a lesson to check your grip overall, your grip might be fine but you just happen to setup wit the club open.

It's not just your grip, you need to know if your swing path is correct

I'm only guessing but it's possible that the weak grip is forcing you to think more about fully rotating the clubhead as you strike the ball. You know in your mind that you will need to rotate the club or the ball will go way right. I used to slice and it was caused by "hanging on" and failing to square up the face as I struck the ball.
