    If you cannot get UPC and are stuck with a mobile grotheap there is some good news in Dublin right now.

    Eircom are running a free line rental promotion for the next 10 months . If you CEASE the line before the 10 months is up you are not hit with a clawback . All promotions linked in PDF below .

    Line connection is free to end march 2010 but this offer applies if there is an unused line in the gaff that has been unused since at least 2008 if not earlier .

    THEREFORE you need only pay for a 1mbit or 3mbit DSL on top of that €0 line rental .

    Total 10 month costs in Bold

    10 Month Line Rental €0 + 10 month 1mbit DSL = 10 x €25.09 or €250.90
    10 Month Line Rental €0 + 10 Month 3mbit DSL = 3m x €30 + 7m x €30.11 or €300.77

    Total 12 month costs in Bold

    12 Month Line Rental (10m x €0 + 2m x €25.47) + (12 month 1mbit DSL = 12 x €25.09 or €301.08
    12 Month Line Rental (10m x €0 + 2m x €25.47) + (12 Month 3mbit DSL = 3m x €30 + 9m x €30.11) or €411.93

    Customers availing of the Trial Line promotion may also be eligible to receive the DFSA (Department of Social and Family Affairs) Telephone Allowance
    Customers upgrading from PSTN to ISDN will lose their discount.

    Standard Monthly Rental
    The eircom Trial Line Promotions offer the above promotional discounts to eligible Residential PSTN lines within each of the geographical areas shown above, between the dates shown
    This promotion relates to PSTN lines, which are inactive on the eircom network (in situ or pre-cabled) and can be electronically enabled. Within each geographic region, to be eligible for this
    promotion, a line must be inactive for 12 months on the last day of the relevant promotion shown above.
    Promotion 1: 18th September to 11th December 2009 (inclusive) - Dublin 01 Area
    Promotion 2: 7th January to 19th March 2010 (inclusive) - 02,05 and 06 Areas
    Promotion 3: 25th March to 7th May 2010 (inclusive) - 04,07 and 09 Areas
    eircom PSTN Trial Line Promotion
    Promotion Periods :
    If a customer moves address during the promotional period, the discount is foregone for the remainder of the promotional period. However, if the customer is moving to an eligible address where
    there is still an active promotion, they may qualify for a new 10-month promotion.
    eircom reserves the right to withdraw this offer by giving relevant notice eircom will retain a list of all eligible lines within each promotion and retains the final judgement on whether a premises is eligible / ineligible for the promotion.
    If a line availing of the promotion is ceased at any time during the 10-month promotion, the discount is foregone for the remainder of the promotion.

    If there is a soft dial tone you may not be eligible , but if there is no soft dial tone it is probably ceased for some time.

    So line connection and DSL connection and DSL modem are all free but this no line rental is for lines ceased for 12 months on the 11th of December 2009 in DUBLIN and later elsewhere .
