Downlighters wont turn off

I recently changed my standard light switche for a dimmer switche. They are a standard twist on off switches that operate from just one switch and control 6 downlighters. I followed the wiring off the previous switch. However, when you switch the dimmer off the light stays on (very faintly). It is obviously still drawing a small amount current but I don't know how to fix it??

if the 6 lights all have 50W lamps make sure its a 500W dimmer, you might only have a 250Watt unit at the moment
