Neck Pain

    Hi all,

Infrequent poster but avid reader of this forum. Anyway, my little story.....

Had a sore RHS shoulder for the month of August. Played no golf due to holidays, too much work etc. Then had a game on the 13th Sept. Felt sore during the warmup, 1st tee practice swings etc. Didn't think too much about it.
You know how it is after a few weeks away from the game & I thought, once I'm moving, I'll be ok.

Played the 18 with not too much pain, the odd yelp here n' there. Few pints that night & as the night went on, the pain "vanished" :)

Next morning, couldn't lift the head off the pillow. Down to Doc on the Monday. Disc probably out was the diagnosis. Had an MRI scan this week & it seems the I have put out 3 discs in the neck area - C4, C5 & C6.

I may need surgery to fix this, which I have to admit, is scaring the bejasus outta me but hopefully, intensive physio will do the job. If it doesn't, there will be a set of Mizuno MP-32's up on adverts

I should've listened to what my body was telling me, but I didn't, so now I face a very long layoff :o:o

As they used to say on "the Hill" - Be careful out there!

Edit: Not intended to scare anyone...

    Al.

    Easy on the horror stories!
Check out a good osteopath before you consider the knife would be my advice and whatever, get well soon.

I would go and see a medical professional (physio, chiro, osteopath etc) with a background in golf injuries so I would recommend the titleist performance institute trained professionals.(http://www.mytpi.com/find/listing.aspx?continent=EU&country=IE)

Surgery is not only the approach you can take.

    Alzar,

do not accept that surgery is the only option...I have a similar problem but have received physical therapy working on discs and do simple exercises to manage problem, apparently it is actually quite common. I am back playing golf, still have crap short game though so cant blame it for that. Do you work on computers or at desk by any chance, reason I ask is that bad posture is often the cause, so I am told. If you want more details just send me a pm.

    Thanks Har44.

Yeah, work in IT so deskbound for most of the day. Am seeing the Doc on Monday or Tuesday. Depending on his advice, may drop you a PM.

I thinks is the fact that the 3 discs are resting on nerves & my right arm is numb from the elbow down, is why surgery has been mentioned.
It's the absloute last resort though, I'll do any amount of physio before I go under the knife :)

    Cheers
    Al.
