    Hi

Just ordered SKY HD and getting it installed next week, but got a quick questiion. Can I get BBC HD via SKY HD, I know probably not through the regular EPG, so:

1] Do I have to add it through "other channels" (like I have added UTV to my ordinary sky box)

2] If I do have to add it, does anybody know what are the values I have to input?

    Thanks in advance
    C

Whoever does the installation should do it for you.

Highly unlikely since it was ordered directly from sky. BBC HD is not a sky channel even though it can be received on a sky box.

Sky installer did it for me when I get HD in a couple of years ago.

I persuaded my mother to get sky installed two weeks ago, just sky plus. Sky did the installation. The lads who did it put in all the extra channels is this the norm Tony.

Perhaps I am doing them a disservice but because they are pretty badly paid in the past they try to get away as quickly as possible, perhaps that thinking has changed.

I always put them in....otherwise I find u get a phonecall later on asking for UTV etc...costs nothing and I feel BBC HD is great when its running so a nice free addition..

Indeed you do Steve but you are an independent who obviously believes in customer service, sky guys are poorly paid so its no surprise that they are not so motivated.

True enought I guess....I was like that when I was with UPC...but to be fair I was fairly well payed but there was no motivation reward if I was willing to do more...hence why I skipped ship...lol

You can get both BBC HD and, assuming the "new" Sky EPG, ITV HD.

    To add them:

Press Services, go to the "Add Channels Tab" on the menu and use the following settings:

    BBC HD: 10.847 V 5/6 22000

    ITV HD: 11.427 H 2/3 27500
(It will come up as Channel 10510.
If no HD programmimg is on it will show an "itv hd" screen.)

    Channel 5 (not HD) 10.773 H 22000 5/6

Thanks for the details there, I will ask, but I like to know how to do it myself..

Yeah I am a little nervous about this install - tried to go through the independent contractor route (the guy who originally installed sky for me) but he said it wasn't worth his time to do this - so booked it through sky, really hoping he feeds the extra cable through the same route that my existing cable comes through - I worry that I am going to get a cowboy.. Install is Friday so will let you know how I get on..

Don't worry to be fair any of the Sky installers I have come across have been conscientious and courteous, this includes original install, subsequent Sky+ and HD installs. They all put in the other channels without me asking, were neat and tidy and they did the same for my Parents, all different guys at different stages over the last few years. Amazing what an offer of a cup of tea and a sandwich will do, it doesn't kill anyone to ask and mostly they will be too busy to accept, but they all appreciated the offer.

Nice idea about the tea and sandwhich, I'll keep that in mind.. :) Just reading other threads about installs I got a little worried that's all...

Generally, you will only hear about the dodgey experiences with installers on a forum like this. 99.9% of jobs are done correctly and well but you never hear about them. This gives a bad image to all but it is human nature unfortunately.

I have never had a problem with my three installs of Sky. The last one went well out of his way and did a great install of HD and multiroom for me.
