    Hi guys,

    I am looking at buying a 2009 reg Yamaha YZF R125 bike from Belfast. It has 2.5K miles on the clock and was registered in Jan '09.

    I am wondering if I buy such bike,
    1. Would I liable to pay VAT ?

    I understand I would have to pay VRT to register the bike here, but not sure what the situation with VAT is...

    Any advice / recommendations is greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

    I'm not sure what the status is on bikes but for cars if the imported car is less than 6 months old or has <6000km on the clock then Revenue deem the car to be brand new and it will be liable to VAT aswell as VRT afaik.

    Take the scenic route home. Another 1250 miles and you will be VAT free.

    Thanks for the replies guys. I have tried calling the Revenue & Citizen Information bureau and I am getting nowhere only answering machines . . .

    Ok I understand that is over 6months old which the bike is as it was registered n January '09 so does that mean No VAT ? Or could they still catch me with the 2500 miles which is under 6000 miles ?

    Unfortunately won't be driving home @Padraig Mor, bike will be getting delivered :)

    Unfortunately, I do think you're liable due to the mileage

    6000km = 3700 miles

    so you need another 1200 as mentioned

    It 6000 miles I think that is required not KM. Im not sure whether you need to be over the 6000 miles if the bike is more than six months old.

    It's KM.
