    Hi All,
For the last 3 months I am working 2 wks on /2 wks off and getting JSB for the weeks I am not working, I am interested in a number of short Fás courses, typically 3 to 5 days, and have seen on the Fas website that there is no course fee for persons in receipt of a SW payment. But that candidates must be registered with Fas.
I havnt had any contact with Fas so I assume i am not registered with them, as my only dealings so far have been with the SW office.
Question is: do the SW register people with Fas automatically after a while?, and if I register with Fas to do the courses will this affect my JSB?

    Thanks

    Training allowances

FÁS training courses are free and you will be paid a training allowance for the duration of your course. You can also claim an accommodation allowance if you need to live away from home for the duration of the course and a travel allowance if you live 3 miles or more from the course centre.

You will be paid a weekly training allowance, which is linked to your age. In 2009 if you are 15 or 16 years of age, you will get €83.25. If you are aged 17 years, you will get €104. If you are 18 years and over, you will get €204.30.

However, if your existing social welfare payment is greater than this amount, your training allowance will match the amount you are currently receiving. FÁS training allowances are not taxable.

You will also get a training bonus of €31.80 per week, if you:

    * have been getting Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance for 12 months or more, or
    * are progressing from at least 12 months on a FÁS Community Employment Scheme or
    * are progressing from at least 12 months on a FÁS Job Initiative Programme
    * have been involved in a combination of the above. For example, if you have been getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 6 months and have been on a Community Employment Scheme for another 6 months of the previous year.

You need to register directly with your local FAS office - the SW do not do anything in this regards except request proof that you have registered with them after a certain amount of time....
